Cyber attack on Armed Forces network detected

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) network was the target of a cyber attack on Monday (Dec 28).

“We confirm that there was a cyber attack on network data belonging to the MAF,” said its chief Tan Sri Affendi Buang.

“The incident was detected by the Cyber and Electromagnetic Defence division as well as by the Cyber Defence Operation Centre (CDOC).

“As soon as the attack occurred, both the division and CDOC isolated data traffic to mask the location of crucial data and protect the network targetted by the hackers,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (Dec 29).

He added that the MAF was aware of continual cyber attack attempts on the Defence Ministry and MAF’s data networks.

“The MAF always monitors and increases its cyber security through the roles of the division and CDOC.

“Both entities not only strengthen the MAF’s defence communication and monitoring, they also protect the nation’s strategic defence communication,” he said.
