Man rams car into police roadblock while on the phone

KUALA LUMPUR: A 40-year-old man, who was using his mobile phone while driving, rammed his car into a police roadblock set up during the movement control order at Old Klang Road on Sunday (Jan 17).

Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Anuar Omar said the 5.50pm incident on Sunday damaged the police roadblock signage but thankfully no one was hurt.

“We have since detained the man and seized his car.

“Investigations revealed that the man admitted to using his mobile phone while driving and was distracted,” he said when contacted Monday (Jan 18).

The man claimed that he had gone out to buy food at Taman Gembira in Old Klang Road, he added.

“The suspect does not have a criminal record and his urine also tested negative for drugs,” he said.

ACP Anuar advised the public to be careful while driving as any mishap could endanger their lives and the lives of others on the road.

“We also hope the public complied with the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) for MCO areas.

“Anyone with questions or information can contact the Brickfields police hotline at 03-2297 9222, the Kuala Lumpur police hotline at 03-2115 9999 or the nearest police station,” he said.
