KUALA LUMPUR: All attention is on Istana Negara today as 114 Members of Parliament are expected to have an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Attorney-General Tan Sri Idrus Harun was seen entering the palace grounds at 9.24am, followed by Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali, about 10 minutes later.

Yesterday, a document sighted by the New Straits Times titled “The attendance of members of parliament to Istana Negara”, stated that the first round of MPs will be present at 10am.

Members of the media have been waiting at Istana Negara’s Gate 2 since 8am.

Based on the document, the MPs will arrive in five batches to meet the King.

This is following speculation that former deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob will be the next prime minister should the Yang di-Pertuan Agong feel satisfied with a simple majority.

It is expected that 18 MPs from Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) as well as six Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) MPs will arrive first at 10am.

For the second batch which will begin at 11.10am, according to the document, 12 Bersatu MPs, led by caretaker Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, three independents and 10 Umno MPs are expected to be present.

The third batch is expected to begin at 2pm, involving 12 Umno MPs and 13 Bersatu MPs while the next meeting at 3.10pm would consist of 15 Umno MPs, two from MCA and one each from MIC, Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS), Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) and Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star).

The final meeting with the king is scheduled to start at 4.20pm for all 18 Pas MPs, including its president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.

Other MPs who are seen as the potential next prime minister include opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Parti Warisan Sabah president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal.

On Monday, Muhyiddin tendered his resignation along with his cabinet to the king and was later appointed as caretaker prime minister.
