KUALA LUMPUR: Yoodo Malaysia is looking for more partnerships with modern digital companies following its successful partnership with iQiyi, an on-demand pan-Asian entertainment streaming service.

“Our recent partnership with iQiyi resulted in a popular add-on that fulfils our users’ needs for their favourite Korean shows.

“Recently we have also partnered with Boost where their users will be rewarded with Boost Credits upon signing up with Yoodo.

“We’re always on the lookout for new and exciting partnerships that can benefit all parties,” the head of Yoodo Chow Tuck Mun told The New Straits Times.

He said as a brand that operates like a start-up, the digital telco service provider is constantly trying to find creative ways to reach out to the consumers.

“There are much more things we can do in our lifestyle segments. For example, in esports, we can continue our efforts in different demographics within existing mobile games while also looking out to work with upcoming game publishers,” he said.

When asked about the demand for esports in Malaysia and how is the company leveraging this growth, Chow said Malaysia is home to 20.1 million gamers as of 2020, and 75 per cent of that number are mobile gamers.

On top of that, esports in Malaysia is a growing industry that has grown exponentially over the past few years.

“The expansion of the community over the years has signalled a readiness for bigger and innovative experiences, which

partly played a role in partnership with Alliance.

“It’s a testament to the fact that Malaysia can and does attract international interest, in our case, from an organisation as esteemed as Alliance,” he said.

Earlier this month, Yoodo announced a partnership with a Sweden-based esports organisation earlier to form Yoodo Alliance, a new PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) Mobile esports team for the game.

The partnership marks the first time Alliance has entered the esports market in Malaysia and aims to further strengthen and boost its local talents to establish Malaysia’s name in the global esports scene.

“Earlier this year we announced a new partnership with RSG for the formation of two new esports teams, Yoodo RSG ML:BB and Yoodo RSG CODM.

“We also inked a partnership with Moonton – developer of the popular Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB).

“Through this venture, we are the official digital telco for several tournaments including the Mobile Legends Professional League (MPL) which is currently taking place,” Chow said.

He said as a brand, Yoodo are open to more partners be it game publishers, teams or other players in the esports ecosystem.

“If we find more partners in the future that are aligned with our aim in developing the esports ecosystem, we will certainly consider a venture with them,” said Chow.
