XOX Bhd introduces #JomBantu: Data Untuk Mereka, a new initiative programme to help Malaysian students from low-income families in conjunction with Home-Based Teaching and Learning (PdPR).

KUALA LUMPUR: XOX Bhd has introduced #JomBantu: Data Untuk Mereka, a new initiative programme to help Malaysian students from low-income families in conjunction with Home-Based Teaching and Learning (PdPR).

In a statement today, the company said underprivileged students struggle to join online classes as they need more mobile data than they could afford since the start of PdPR during the pandemic.

XOX said this had been a significant issue, and a collaborative effort with the general public has been established to assist the students.

The #JomBantu pilot project began with mobile data crowdfunding is open to all subscribers and communities within the XOX network.

The data accumulated into the data bank can be donated from 0.1GB to 10GB, either one-off or every month.

Students who are eligible for this programme will benefit from free monthly 10GB of data. To date, the programme has assisted 120 students.

Group chief executive officer Ng Kok Heng said the company is looking to commence phase two of #JomBantu, by enabling the public, who are non-XOX subscribers, to join to contribute mobile data to students.

“For now, this initiative covers the contribution of mobile data to school students. In future, we are looking to promote the concept of sharing to the society through our plans and products,” he said.

XOX Bhd intends to help 5,000 students from around Malaysia to have the same learning opportunity as others.

The company urges the public to continue sharing their data for this noble cause to assist these students until the schools reopen.
