KUALA LUMPUR: Police have opened 13 investigation papers into the Edisi SiasatMY Twitter handle and several claims it posted involving the police.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said the Twitter account which has been actively publishing corruption, abuse of power and irregularities in government departments is currently under investigation.

He said police were in the midst of identifying those responsible for publishing those claims.

“We have opened 13 investigation papers into the allegations made against several police officers as well as the ‘Edisi SiasatMY’ twitter account.

“We have channeled all corruption and abuse of power among police officers alleged in the post to the Integrity and Standard Procedures Department to investigate and verify the accusation,” he told reporters after officiating the Commercial Crime Prevention Campaign (Online Crime) 2021 here today.

Acryl Sani said so far the revelations made which implicated some police officers have turned out to be dubious.

“Many of the claims made and published in the post seemed like they were meant to purposely sensationalise those claims,” he said.

He added that police were in the process of identifying the person or persons responsible for the Twitter handle and the materials posted on the account.

“Rest assured an immediate investigation will be launched on any of those claims provided they are true and backed by evidence,” he said.

Meanwhile, on the preparations for the Melaka State Election, Acryl Sani said police would follow the SOPs issued by the National Security Council and ensure all safety precautions are fully adhered to.

“I am going to IPK Melaka for the election briefing tonight and I expect to get a clearer picture of the preparations when I am briefed by the state police chief,” he said.
