KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob today announced that the toll rates involving highways in the Klang Valley operated by four concessionaires will remain unchanged until the end of the concession.
He said this was achieved after the government had agreed to the proposed restructuring to the four highway concessionaires.
The four concessionaires are Kesas Sdn Bhd which manages the Shah Alam Highway; Syarikat Mengurus Air Banjir dan Terowong Sdn Bhd oversees the Stormwater Management and Road Tunnel (SMART) system; Sistem Penyuraian Trafik KL Barat Sdn Bhd (SPRINT) is in charge of the Western Kuala Lumpur Traffic Dispersal System and Lingkaran Trans Kota Sdn Bhd handles the Damansara-Puchong Highway (LDP).
“The restructuring exercise will see the toll rates not being increased and remained unchanged until the end of the concession apart from reducing the compensation cost from Jan 1 this year until the end of the concession period.
“The government is expected to save at least RM4.3 billion in toll subsidies following the restructuring of the four highway concessionaires,” he said in a statement today.
Ismail Sabri added that this was part of the government’s continuous efforts to lessen the burden of the people.
The restructuring exercise, he said, was implemented with the main objective of reducing the burden of the people without incurring financial implication against the government at the same time.
“The saving from the restructuring exercise can be used to carry out development programmes of the country’s infrastructures and other facilities for the wellbeing of the people in Malaysia,” he said.
Details on the government’s approval on the restructuring exercise, he said, would be outlined by Senior Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
