Covid-19 cases fall below 5,000 mark, 10 deaths recorded on July 21

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia reported 4,587 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday, dropping from 5,685 infections the previous day.

Of the fresh cases, 11 were imported while another 4,576 were local transmissions.

Klang Valley contributed more than half of yesterday’s cases, with 1,408 reported in Kuala Lumpur, 1,399 in Selangor and 65 in Putrajaya.

Other cases saw 360 infections being logged in Perak, 285 in Negri Sembilan, 267 in Sabah, 237 in Penang, 130 in Johor, 109 in Kedah, 100 in Melaka, 64 in Sarawak, 57 in Kelantan, 41 in Pahang, 35 in Terengganu, 17 in Labuan and 13 in Perlis.

Also reported to the Health Ministry were 2,652 recoveries and 10 deaths from Covid-19, including five brought-to-dead cases.

To date, 4,640,235 individuals in the country have been infected with Covid-19 in which 4,556,938 people recovered, 35,888 died from the coronavirus and 47,409 people are currently positive.

Of the active cases, 96.7 per cent are undergoing home quarantine, 3.1 per cent hospitalised, 0.2 per cent treated in intensive care unit (ICU), and 0.1 per cent isolated at Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centre (PKRC).

Twenty-two out of 63 patients in the ICU are ventilated.

Yesterday, 565 Covid-19 patients were admitted to hospitals. Currently, 22.7 per cent of the Covid-19 beds, 15.6 per cent of the ICU beds and 26.9 per cent of the PKRC beds are being utilised.

Hospital bed utilisation rates in five states, namely Melaka, Johor, Terengganu, Kedah, and Selangor, remained over 80 per cent.

The Health Ministry has also identified one new education cluster, the Jalan Yahya 6 cluster, in Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur. The cluster that has a 66.7 per cent positivity rate and 20 cases.

Meanwhile, 1.1 per cent of the adult population or 257,060 adults have received their second booster jabs while 68.5 per cent or 16,125,269 individuals aged 18-year-old and above have taken first booster shots.
