15 deaths and 3,516 Covid-19 cases on Wednesday

KUALA LUMPUR: The country’s daily Covid-19 cases continue to climb with 3,516 infections recorded yesterday (Aug 17) compared to Tuesday’s 3,429 cases.

Three of these fresh infections were imported cases, pushing the cumulative Covid-19 caseloads to 4,706,914.

The CovidNow portal showed that Selangor topped the list with the highest daily infection at 893 followed by Kuala Lumpur at 878 and Sabah with 318 cases.

There are now 41,701 active cases in the country with 40,034 of these infections placed under home quarantine and 41 people treated at Low Risk Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

As of yesterday, there were 1,534 Covid-19 patients at hospitals with 92 of them being treated at the intensive care unit (ICU) and 49 using ventilator support.

On Covid-19 fatalities, Malaysia recorded 15 deaths yesterday with four brought-in-dead cases.

These latest daily Covid-19 fatalities are the highest since April 20.

The country’s Covid-19 death toll now stood at 36,117 fatalities.

Johor had the highest number of Covid-19 fatalities with four cases followed by three each in Melaka and Perak, two in Sabah and one each in Pahang, Sarawak and Selangor.

The portal reported 2,541 people had recovered from the virus yesterday, bringing the cumulative recovery to 4,667,111 since the pandemic hit the country two years ago.
