KUALA LUMPUR: The country’s new Covid-19 cases reported dropped below the 3,000 mark for the second consecutive day with 2,464 infections recorded yesterday (Aug 21).
The day before, the number of Covid-19 cases reported was 2,798 infections.
The country’s cumulative infections now stand at 4,757,752 cases.
Of the total, 2,448 cases were local while 16 were imported ones.
Selangor recorded the highest number of daily infections yesterday at 748 cases, followed by 505 cases in Kuala Lumpur.
The rest of the states reported below 230 cases.
According to the CovidNow website, active cases decreased to 38,918 after 4,427 recoveries were reported.
From the figure, 37,408, or 96.1 per cent of the people are placed under home quarantine and 32 people (0.1 per cent) were placed at Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centres (PKRC).
A total 1,409 of the active cases were hospitalised while 69 patients were being treated at the intensive care units (ICU), with 33 of them requiring ventilator support.
Nine fatalities linked to Covid-19 were reported yesterday.
The Covid-19 deaths were reported in Johor and Kedah with three cases each, and Pahang, Sabah and Selangor with one death each.
The death toll from the pandemic now stands at 36,145 since it started two years ago.
In terms of vaccination, a total 16,208,909 individuals have taken their Covid-19 first booster shot so far while 442,007 others have taken their second booster dose.
A total 2,590,200 elderly aged over 60 have been vaccinated with their Covid-19 first booster shot while 176,089 of them have also taken another dose of the booster vaccine so far.
Another 16,161,370 adults aged 18 and above have received their first booster dose while 441,729 have taken their second booster.
Some 1,524,460 children aged five to 11 have been fully vaccinated while 2,876,551 of adolescents aged 12 to 17 have also fully vaccinated.
