Daily Covid-19 cases on downward trend, 10 deaths reported

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is showing a steady decrease in the daily Covid-19 cases reported, with 2,078 new infections reported on Monday (Aug 22) compared to 2,464 cases on Sunday (Aug 21).

This brings the country’s cumulative infections to 4,759,830 cases, according to the Health Ministry’s CovidNow data.

Of the new cases, 12 were imported infections.

Kuala Lumpur topped the list with 457 cases followed by other states with triple-digits.

This includes Selangor at 427 cases, Sabah (210), Perak (160), Johor (112), and Negri Sembilan (111).

Authorities also recorded 3,290 recoveries which brings the total number of recoveries to 4,685,979.

According to the CovidNow website, a slight decrease of 37,696 active cases was reported yesterday.

Of these active cases, 36,187 people were placed under home quarantine and 31 others were being treated at low-risk quarantine and treatment centres.

The portal reported 1,409 hospitalised patients with 30 placed in the intensive care units and another 39 of them requiring ventilator support.

Ten patients succumbed to the virus, including three brought-in-dead cases.

Johor reported three deaths, while Putrajaya and Negri Sembilan reported two deaths each.

Penang, Kedah, and Melaka reported one death each.

The total number of deaths now stand at 36,155 cases.
