Daily Covid-19 cases push past 3,000 mark

KUALA LUMPUR: The country’s new daily Covid-19 cases rose to 3,206 as of yesterday (Aug 25), compared to 2,636 cases the day before.

The fresh infections bring the total cumulative cases in the country to 4,768,394.

Of the new cases, four were imported and 3,202 were local transmissions.

Data from the Health Ministry’s CovidNow portal showed that Selangor topped the list with the highest number of fresh cases at 1,092, followed by Kuala Lumpur at 583 and Sabah with 297.

As of yesterday, active Covid-19 cases stood at 35,988.

Currently, 34,626 individuals are being placed under home quarantine while 22 Covid-19 patients are treated at low-risk quarantine and treatment centres.

There are 1,271 Covid-19 patients currently hospitalised with 69 patients admitted to intensive care units (ICU).

Of the patients in the ICU, 42 require ventilator support.

The country’s overall ICU utilisation rate was 63.4 per cent while nationwide ventilator utilisation stood at 37.5 per cent as of yesterday.

Covid-19 daily fatalities showed a slight decline with eight deaths reported yesterday, including one brought-in-dead case.

Three deaths were reported in Selangor, followed by one case each in Johor, Kelantan, Negri Sembilan, Perak and Kuala Lumpur.

Eleven deaths were reported on Wednesday.

There have been 36,185 Covid-19 deaths in the country since the pandemic hit.

A total 2,180 patients recovered from the coronavirus on Wednesday.
