No kidnappings for organs in Johor, say cops

JOHOR BARU: The Johor police have denied claims that there have been cases of people being kidnapped for organ harvesting in the state.

Johor police chief Datuk Comm Kamarul Zaman Mamat said a seven-second video claiming so has been making rounds on social media.

“The video uploaded on the ‘AESTHETICHARU’ TikTok account claimed that there are kidnappers taking people’s organs and selling them to hospitals in Johor. We have not received any police reports regarding such cases as claimed by the social media account.

“We view this as an attempt to instigate fear among the public,” added Comm Kamarul Zaman on Wednesday (Oct 5).

He said that spreading such speculation is against the law and could face action under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

The offence is punishable with a maximum fine of RM50,000, a one-year jail term or both upon conviction.

Comm Kamarul Zaman advised the public not to be gullible and believe such claims made by unverified sources.
