KOTA BARU: Kelantan health department will adopt the same standard operating procedures (SOP) to reduce the risk of Covid-19 transmission among flood victims.

State health director Datuk Dr Zaini Hussin said this includes wearing face masks and maintaining physical distance among flood victims at the relief centres.

“Flood victims will be screened first for any symptoms and risk factors involving Covid-19 before being allowed to enter the relief centres.

“Victims with symptoms will be required to undergo a Covid-19 screening test to prevent the occurrence of Covid-19 clusters among flood victims at the centre.

“This also to ensure they are free from other infections as well due to floods,” he said.

Dr Zaini also said the department is ready for another round of flood to hit the state from now on following the latest prediction by the Meteorological Department.

“During the last flood in November, four flood victims who were evacuated at a relief centre in Pasir Mas tested positive

for Covid-19, while another 18 underwent the screening tests after they became the close contact of the positive patients.

“But the 18 were tested negative. Prior to this, the department’s staff stationed at the centre were told to be more alert on the situation,” he said.

Dr Zaini said the department expected Covid-19 cases recorded in the state will continue to increase in the coming weeks.

He said this was based on the infectivity rate (Rt) for Covid-19 at 1.04 recorded on the 47 epidemiological week.

“There is an increasing trend of Covid-19 cases in the state starting on the 42 epidemiological week, but the situation is under control.

“The infectivity rate for Kelantan in week 47 is 1.04 and based on this figure, there will be an increase in the coming weeks,” he said.

Dr Zaini said a total of 89,178 cases were recorded in Kelantan as of Nov 26 this year and 173 people died due to Covid-19.

“In the 47 epidemiological week (from Nov 20 to 26), 890 Covid-19 cases were recorded, an increase of 100 cases compared to the previous week,” he added.

On Covid-19 cluster, he said Kelantan recorded 94 clusters this year with two of them still active.
