Over 1,700 cops deployed for Ops Selamat in Johor

JOHOR BARU: More than 1,700 policemen have been deployed statewide for Ops Selamat in conjunction with Chinese New Year, says Johor police chief Comm M. Kumar.

Comm Kumar said that apart from ensuring road safety, the operation also aims to ensure that houses are not at risk of robberies during the festive season.

“We have deployed 1,736 personnel and officers for Ops Selamat, which runs from Feb 8 to Feb 13.

“On top of minimising road accidents, we also want to ensure that houses left empty during the festive season remain safe.

“The public could also reach out to the police at the nearest stations around them to inform them about their homes that are left empty. We will have policemen patrol the area from time to time,” he said.

Comm Kumar said that during the same period, some 89 officers and 582 personnel were also deployed for Ops Lancar to ensure smooth traffic.

“We have identified a total of 41 hot spots (areas that are frequently congested) and 37 black spots (areas where accidents often happen) statewide.

“These areas, which include the Second-Link and Causeway, will be given special attention during Ops Lancar,” he said.
