Malaysia gears up for World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan

THE Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry (MITI) will lead Malaysia’s participation at the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Kansai, Japan to attract investments and enhance trade.

The World Expo will feature showcases by over 160 countries from April 13 to October 13, 2025, attracting an estimated 28 million visitors to Yumeshima Island, Osaka.

MITI Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz said leveraging on the sizeable audience, he was optimistic that Malaysia could generate around RM13 billion worth of potential exports and investment from the event.

Previously, Malaysia’s participation in World Expo Dubai 2021-2022 was marked by the engagement of over 400 Malaysian companies, resulting in nearly 5,000 business leads and RM8.3 billion in trade and investments.

Malaysia’s participation will be themed “Weaving a Future in Harmony” to illustrate the synergy between diverse cultures, economies and environments, highlighting the country’s inclusive and sustainable society.

“The government will also facilitate business-matching through the Malaysian Pavilion by offering space and other support for networking, showcasing Malaysian products and services, and forging strategic partnerships,” he said today during the announcement of Malaysia’s involvement at next year’s World Expo.

The announcement was made by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

Tengku Zafrul emphasised MITI’s collaborative efforts across various ministries, agencies, businesses and stakeholders to highlight advancements in industrial reforms, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, green manufacturing, smart living, sustainable environmental management and the halal industry.

Meanwhile, Fadillah said Malaysia’s diversity was an advantage that should be nurtured.

“Every individual and community brings their unique perspective and talents to enrich our society,” he said.

Malaysia has been participating in World Expos since 1970, taking advantage of the platform to boost its global presence.
