PM meeting Pakatan Harapan leaders today

PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan’s top brass is set to meet Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (pic) at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in Perdana Putra in Putrajaya at 2pm on Wednesday (Aug 25).

Though the agenda of the meeting is not known, it is understood that the meeting will be about deliberating Ismail Sabri’s earlier invitation to the Opposition to be a part of the National Recovery Council (NRC) and the Special Committee on Covid-19.

“Let’s see what’s on the table,” said the Pakatan source briefly.

News of the meeting was disseminated to the press by PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil on Wednesday afternoon.

The Lembah Pantai MP said the meeting with Ismail Sabri will involve PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) president Mohamad Sabu.

“At 2pm, there will be a meeting between Anwar, Mohamad and Lim together with Ismail Sabri and invitations were given by the PMO,” he added.

In an earlier statement on Wednesday (Aug 25), Pakatan presidential council said it will consider Ismail Sabri’s invitation to join the NRC and the Special Committee on Covid-19.

“This is to ensure that (the invitation) is made sincerely to fight the Covid-19 pandemic and the economic stagnation, instead of merely a ‘rubber stamp’ in the government’s view,” added Anwar, Mohamad and Lim in the joint statement.

On Sunday (Aug 22), in Ismail Sabri’s maiden speech as Prime minister, he offered the Opposition the chance to be a part of the NRC and the Special Committee on Covid-19, as he stressed the need to stamp out politicking.

Ismail Sabri said he understood the recent political turmoil has caused public distress and stressed the importance of achieving political stability through the theme of togetherness and this includes cross-party cooperation.

Ismail Sabri was appointed Prime Minister after the Bera MP secured the support of 114 MPs following Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s resignation as premier last Monday (Aug 16).

The ninth Prime Minister has pledged to build an administrative team that will aid the country in recovering from both the economic and public health crises caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
