PUTRAJAYA: The deadline for renewal of driving licences and road tax will be extended until Dec 31, announces Transport Minister Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong (pic).

He said with the extension, the public can be assured that no action will be taken against those with expired Malaysian driving licences as well as road by Road Transport Department (JPJ) enforcement officers and the police.

“Motorists with expired road tax must, however, ensure that the insurance for their vehicles are valid.

“They must display their insurance e-cover note for authorities to check,” he said at a press conference on Friday (Sept 3).

In August, the JPJ had said that all road users must renew their licences by Sept 30 and that checks on compliance and enforcement would start from Oct 1.

These licences include the Competent Driving Licences (CDL), Motor Vehicle Licences (LKM or road tax), Goods Driving Licence (GDL) and the Public Service Vehicle (PSV) license.

Dr Wee also said victims of floods in Yan, Kedah whose JPJ documents had been destroyed will be given a replacement free of charge.

He said, however, those affected must lodge a police report first and bring it together to the JPJ counter for verification.

Replacement fees for driving licences are RM20, road tax for cars (RM50) and motorcycles (RM20).
