IPOH: The 22-year-old nanny who slammed a baby boy’s head against the floor has been charged with attempted murder at the Sessions Court here.

Nursahidah Amran pleaded not guilty to the charge under Section 307 of the Penal Code before Sessions Court judge Norita Mohd Ardani.

Nursahidah also pleaded not guilty to an alternative charge under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act for abuse that could cause physical injury.

Nursahidah is said to have committed the act at No 65, Persiaran Pinji Selatan 23, Taman Desa Pelancongan 2 here on Sept 22 between 7am and 2.45pm.

The nanny had reportedly slammed the seven-month-old toddler’s head against the floor twice as the baby would not stop crying.

The baby was sent to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital for checks and was found to have internal bleeding and cracks to his skull.

He was unconscious and said to be in critical condition.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Afiqa Liyana Rozman had requested the court to deny bail as the accused and the victim’s family stayed in the same housing area.

Her lawyer Muhamad Syahrul Nizam Mohd Rabi argued that bail should be given as Nursahidah would be at risk of being exposed to Covid-19 if she was to be detained in prison.

“Her husband is just a cleaner with a minimum wage of RM1,200.

“Bail is not a punishment and it is to ensure that she comes to court,” he added.

Norita set bail at RM5,000 with one surety and also ordered for the accused to not disturb the witness of the case.

Mention for the case is set for Nov 30.
