Kedah flood evacuees reduced to 500 people

ALOR STAR: The number of flood victims in seven flood relief centres (PPS) in Kedah decreased from 530 yesterday to 500 people from 132 families this morning.

Kedah Civil Defence Force Disaster Management Committee Secretariat chief, Major Mohd Muaz Mohd Yusoff said as at 8am today, the number of PPS in Pendang and Kota Setar remained at seven.

“As at 8am today, the number of victims taking shelter at the seven flood relief centre decreased from 530 yesterday evening to 500 people,” he said in a statement.

“In Pendang, 170 evacuees from 43 families are still taking shelter at the Dewan Rakan Sukan PPS in Tanah Merah while Dewan Cenderawasih PPS is providing shelter for 81 people from 25 families.

“In Kota Setar, 249 people from 64 families are still taking shelter at four PPS namely SK Darul Hikmah, SK Convent, SMK Convent and SMK Simpang Kuala,” he said.

Muaz added that SK Darul Hikmah is sheltering 25 evacuees from five families followed by SK Convent (25 people from six families), SMK Convent (134 people from 37 families) and SMK Simpang Kuala (65 people from 16 families).
