PETALING JAYA: Top Glove Corp Bhd has seen an improvement in its position in the S&P Global corporate sustainability assessment for the healthcare equipment and supplies industry category.
The group is among the top 10% in the healthcare equipment and supplies industry category globally.
This is an increase from the previous year, when it was among the top 19% of its peers, Top Glove said in a statement yesterday.
“We are one of three Malaysian companies, aside from new additions Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd and MISC Bhd, to be included on the prestigious 2021 Index, marking its third year running on the index. We are also the only Malaysian healthcare manufacturing company, and one of three healthcare industry companies to be included on this year’s Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) under the emerging markets category,” Top Glove said.
It said the assessment covers environmental, social, and governance (ESG) areas that included corporate governance, supply chain management, operational eco efficiency, climate strategy, occupational health and safety, labour practices and human rights.
The DJSI, operated by S&P Global, is a provider of ratings that evaluate the world’s leading companies in terms of ESG criteria.
“We congratulate Top Glove for being included in the DJSI for Emerging Markets. A DJSI distinction reflects being a sustainability leader in your industry. The record number of companies participating in the 2021 S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment is testament to the growing movement for ESG disclosure and transparency,” S&P Global’s head of ESG research Manjit Jus said.
In its recently released financial year 2021 (FY21) annual report, Top Glove had outlined its efforts to step up ESG initiatives, as it works towards a net-zero carbon roadmap and target setting.
“Under the company’s FY21 environmental highlights, Top Glove detailed progress in carbon emission reduction at its factories. Additionally, the group also aims to achieve zero carbon emissions at its water treatment plants by FY22 and at its office premises and warehouses by FY25,” it said.
Top Glove aims to reduce 25% of carbon emission intensity by FY25, against a base year of FY21. It has also made strides to cement its position as an employer of choice by enforcing its zero cost recruitment policy for foreign workers.
