SHAH ALAM: Seven break-ins were reported in Selangor since the floods struck last weekend.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said the break-ins involved places or shops that sold food or essential items as well as factories.
“Four break-ins were reported in Shah Alam, two in Klang Utara and one in Klang Selatan.
“Several arrests have been made based on the reports that were lodged.
“To ensure there are no recurrences, police have deployed 30 teams from the Criminal Investigation Department Cantas Squad involving 120 officers,” he told a press conference at the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) command centre in Taman Sri Muda, here, today.
Acryl said all temporary evacuation centres (PPS) have enough food supplies, including for foreigners.
“During the floods, we found there were a number of people taking advantage by claiming they were desperate and even took more than allocated to distribute elsewhere.
“This is for the victims…government aid for all.
“I would also like to applaud the efforts of respective residents and non-governmental organisations (NGO) for deploying help to the victims,” he said.
Acrly Sani advised flood victims to lodge police reports at the evacuation centres personally.
“I have instructed all district police chiefs to do so since our systems have also been disrupted by the floods.”
