Police to monitor crowd at popular holiday destinations during school break

State police chief Datuk Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf said policemen will be on the ground to conduct surveillance at popular tourist spots, beaches and the Teluk Gading jetty in Rompin (for those entering Pulau Tioman).

KUANTAN: Anticipating an influx of visitors at tourist destinations across Pahang during the school holidays next week, police will intensify random checks to ensure full compliance of Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOP).

State police chief Datuk Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf said policemen will be on the ground to conduct surveillance at popular tourist spots, beaches and the Teluk Gading jetty in Rompin (for those entering Pulau Tioman).

“Police have been conducting regular patrols to ensure Covid-19 compliance at all the 11 districts in Pahang but during the school holidays, there will be plenty of movements, especially holiday-makers visiting tourist destinations. Due to the surge in Covid-19 cases, policemen have to be more proactive.

“We want the public to assist by complying with the SOPs when they visit the tourist spots. Those eligible for vaccinations have to be fully vaccinated, always use face masks and practise social distancing … recently, police issued a compound to a visitor who entered Pulau Tioman without the Covid-19 vaccine digital certificate,” he told reporters here.

Meanwhile, Ramli said police cannot stop people from travelling to popular tourist spots as that is their right since the government has lifted the restrictions and given them the freedom to move.

“People should not misuse their freedom and they have to be responsible. Police would usually advise those who do not comply with the SOPs before we issue compounds to those who remain stubborn,” he said.
