Almost 100 per cent of Malaysia’s adult population vaccinated against Covid-19

KUALA LUMPUR: A total 14,274,843 adults in the country or 60.7 per cent have received their Covid-19 booster shots.

Yesterday, 95,380 people received their booster shots nationwide.

Some 97.5 per cent of the adult population or 22,946,057 in the country have completed two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.

PotectHealth Corporation chief executive officer Anas Alam Faizli reiterated calls, urging those yet to receive their booster shots to do so after the country recorded 31,199 new cases yesterday, the highest since the pandemic began in 2020.

In a Tweet, he said: “Please get your booster. Omicron is dangerous, it is not a common flu.

“It is Covid-19, Omicron might be milder than Delta but is still dangerous, it is not mild.

“Walk in to any PPV for your booster dose, please protect yourself. #PICKBooster,” he said.

As for children aged 5 to 11-years-old, 18.6 per cent or 661,752 have taken their first dose under the Covid-19 National Immunisation Programme for Children (PICKids) since it rolled out on Feb 3.

Sarawak has the highest vaccination rate for PICKids at 34.7 per cent, while another state with a vaccination rate over 30 per cent was Melaka (31.6 per cent).

This is followed by Penang where 25.7 per cent of the children have been vaccinated, Perak (24.4 per cent), Klang Valley (21.7 per cent), Negri Sembilan (19.4 per cent), Johor (19 per cent), Labuan (18.9 per cent), Pahang (16.3 per cent), Perlis (13.8 per cent) and Kedah (13.3 per cent).

Three states with a vaccination rate below 10 per cent were Sabah at 8.9 per cent, Terengganu (7.5 per cent) and Kelantan (6.1 per cent).

Meanwhile, Malaysia recorded another 55 Covid-19 fatalities on Wednesday, pushing the death toll to 32,488.

Based on GitHub’s data, of the total, 23 were brought-in-dead cases.

Of this, eight were in Sabah, five in Selangor, two each in Johor and Pahang and each in Kedah, Kelantan, Melaka, Negri Sembilan, Perak, and Penang.
