PASIR GUDANG: Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2021 candidates who tested positive for Covid-19, were placed under quarantine or identified as close contacts of positive cases, can sit for the SPM examination next month, during the second exam session.

Senior Minister of Education Datuk Dr Mohd Radzi Md Jidin said there may be a slight delay but at least they don’t have to wait another year.

He said SPM candidates only needed to fill up a declaration form, accompanied by the school principal’s confirmation of the issue faced and their MySejahtera status information as proof.

“The ministry has made it clear that students who test positive must notify the school, the principal will confirm whether it is true and show evidence from MySejahtera.

“So positive candidates do not have to worry, they can sit for the examination in the second session to be held in April.

“Similarly, those affected by the floods in Kelantan are also allowed to sit for the examination in April,” he told a press conference after visiting Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Kota Masai 2, Taman Kota Masai here, today.

He said this in response to allegations from parents that their children were prohibited from sitting for the Bahasa Malaysia Paper 1, Visual Arts Education Paper 1 and Bahasa Malaysia Paper 2 today.

Radzi said a total 50,317 Johor SPM candidates out of 407,057 nationwide were eligible to sit for the 2021 SPM at over 3,000 examination centres.

Meanwhile, he said, although 147 secondary schools in Johor will be used as polling centres for the Johor state election, he assured that this would not disrupt the examination process.

“Preferably we do not want schools to be used as polling centres, but due to space constraints, the Election Commission (EC) and the ministry discussed the matter and decided that 147 schools under the MoE had to be made polling centres.

“Alhamdulillah, we have good cooperation from the EC so rooms used for the examination are not used as voting rooms to ensure the SPM examination runs smoothly and in an orderly manner,” he said.
