SIBU: A 30-year-old woman was cheated of RM37,217 due to a non-existent forex trading scheme that promised 100% returns.
Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Zulkipli Suhaili said the woman had lodged a police report on Tuesday (March 21) and added that she had said that she logged into a forex trading website.
“She then made a payment of RM37,217 in seven transactions to five account numbers. The purpose was to earn points and a 100% profit,” he said.
However, she was asked to make another payment of RM41,447 to enable her to get back her money and bonus totalling RM273,439.
“It was then she realised that she had been conned and came forward to file a report,” said ACP Zulkipli.
The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
