30 challenges you can do to have a fulfilling Ramadan 2021

As we enter Ramadan, it’s time to put away daily distractions and make the best out of our days to do more good.

It’s never too late to establish your intentions and work on improving yourself.

At the end of the blissful month, it’s not about how nice our new clothes are, or how much we cook for Eid, but the good deeds that we do will help us to be better people.

Try challenging yourself and your loved ones to complete these 30 tips to have a fulfilling Ramadan 2021!

1. Bring your own reusable containers when you're taking away food for iftar and sahur

It’s the first day of Ramadan! Why not kick start the month by aiming to be more sustainable in our daily lives? Bring along your own reusable container this Ramadan – it’ll come in handy especially when you take away food for iftar. Don’t just stop there, make this a habit and use reusable bags when shopping and bring along your own water bottle wherever you go as well! 

2. Treat someone for iftar

Take someone out for iftar today! Spend quality time with your loved ones as you have a chat over a meal at the end of the day. You can either take your pick from an array of favourite restaurants or if you’re looking to stay at home for a more relaxing time, order from a variety of eateries that will deliver right to your doorstep!

3. Limit social media time to 30 minutes daily

This Ramadan, let’s put away the reel life to immerse ourselves into real life. Set your daily social media usage to 30 minutes during this month. You will be more productive, focused and aware of the people around you. Use this time to strengthen connections with other people, work on your self-improvement and spiritual deeds and spend time with your family. 4. Set 5 goals you would like to achieve this Ramadan

If you’ve set some goals you’d like to achieve during this month, you’re already halfway to achieving them! If you haven’t, you can start by assessing what you would like to focus on this Ramadan. By setting goals, you are working on your growth and it helps you to organise your time and resources better. Goals also give you the short-term motivation you need for long-term improvement!

7. Cook iftar for the family

8. Share your iftar with your neighbour

Nothing beats a home-cooked meal. It’s even better when you share it with someone else. Go beyond the short greetings with your neighbours and instead, share with them some food for iftar today! This simple gesture may brighten their day and strengthen your neighbourly bond.

Get up and get moving to keep your health in check this Ramadan! Find a short window of 15-20 minutes before iftar to get a decent exercise in. Working out before sunset is regarded as one of the optimal timings as the weather is cooler and you can immediately rehydrate when iftar comes!

You can also think of your next iftar or sahur meal prep as you shop for groceries. It’ll definitely help the ones who are cooking for the family every day to have an adequate food stock at home! 

11. Take a 20-minute walk in nature

We are all too familiar with halting the exercise regime during this month of Ramadan in order to save our energy for other things like working and cooking. Instead of watching a show before iftar, how about taking a 20-minute walk in the park? Beat the sedentary lifestyle and let yourself wind down at the end of the day by setting proper time to get out of the house and appreciate the nature we often take for granted.

13. Call a friend or a family member (near or far) that you haven't talked to in a while and ask them how they're doing

With our fast-paced lifestyles, we often find ourselves forgetting to keep in touch with friends and family. If you haven’t been talking or spending time with a loved one, give them a call and ask them how they’re doing – it could make both your days better! Take it a step further and plan for your next iftar meetup!

14. Keep a memory of your time spent with loved ones during Ramadan by taking a photo

As you spend time with your loved ones this Ramadan, keep your memories alive by taking a photo for you to look back on whenever. For example, you can take a photo during your meal together as it’s not every day that you and your family have iftar together or a candid shot of your family (and furry friends!). Many Ramadans later, you’ll be thankful you took this for memory’s sake. 

15. Be more productive than the day before; set several goals and tick them off your list

We all know that plastic is non-biodegradable and thus it poses a hazard to our wildlife habitats and environment. To play our part in reducing plastic waste, ensure that the plastic items in your trash are recycled! This allows the material to be re-made into new products, enabling an environmentally-friendly cycle of plastic waste. Let’s encourage our friends and family to be more sustainable too!

25. Have a healthy sahur

Having a good, nutritious meal at the start of your day is important to fill your stomach before fasting. Knitting is not only a skill but an activity that you could do to unwind at the end of the day. You can also use this time to slow down your fast-paced lifestyle and get a family member to join you as well! Other skills you could pick up at home are gardening or baking!

30. Say 'thank you' to someone you usually take for granted

In between rushing from home and work every day, we often forget to say the most simple ‘thank you’ to the people we normally take for granted. Whether it’s our parents or loved ones, or even the people who help our society every day like bus drivers and cleaners in our neighbourhood, let’s thank them for all that they do.
