PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) says it will not compromise on any wrongdoing of its personnel, insisting that they would take stern action.
This was after the commission charged one of its officers and another individual for corruption at the Shah Alam Sessions Court on Tuesday (June 15).
“We would like to stress that we will not compromise on any misconduct, crime or any violation of the law by our officers and will take stern action if they do so,” MACC said in a statement Tuesday (June 15).
It said that MACC officer Shahrul Izuan Mohd Zin, 41, was charged with conspiring with Teoh Peng Sin, 55, to receive a bribe of RM100, 000 as an incentive not to conduct investigations under Act 613 (Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities 2001).
Both Shahrul and Teoh were detained by the MACC on April 14 of this year.
They were charged before judge Rozilah Salleh.
MACC also said that Shahrul had previously been detained by the police for investigations under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma), although the charge was unrelated to that case.
