Man dies of electric shock while stealing electric cable

SUBANG JAYA: A man died in hospital after he was electrocuted while trying to steal electric cables from a factory at Batu Tiga in Shah Alam on Monday.

District police chief, Assistant Commissioner Abd Khalid Othman said the Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) Control Centre in Bangsar received an alert on a power outage at its main inlet substation located in Batu Tiga, Shah Alam.

“They immediately sent a technical team to the location to inspect and realised the substation had been broken into and one of its switches had also been damaged.

Khalid said the technical team alerted the police and the suspect was sent to the Shah Alam Hospital, where he succumbed to second degree burns.

“The suspect, who had several past drug and criminal related records, tested positive for Covid-19 before he died at 8.55pm.

“Preliminary investigations showed the suspect had cut the factory fence and went inside with the intention of stealing TNB cables but was electrocuted before he could do so.

“Some of the fuses and cables, estimated at RM60,000, were also burnt as a result of the power outage,” he said.

Khalid said the case is being investigated under Section 453 of the Penal Code for trespassing and hiding with intend to steal.
