Delta variant may spread to seven more villages in Pasir Puteh

KOTA BARU: The state health department is of the view that the Delta variant Covid-19 coronavirus may spread to seven more villages in Pasir Puteh.

Its director Datuk Dr Zaini Hussin said the department believes the coronavirus had infected individuals in the villages after the first case which was detected on July 23.

He said the seven villages are Kampung Bukit Merbau, Kampung Gong Jering, Kampung Alor Pasir, Kampung Alor Hijau, Kampung Bukit Tanah, Kampung Banggol Pak Esah and Kampung Lepah.

“We recorded the first Delta variant case in Kampung Gong Kulim in Pasir Puteh on July 23 and following the case, we suspected that the coronavirus might spread to seven more areas.

“These seven villages also recorded high Covid-19 cases of late,” he told reporters here today.

Dr Zaini said a total of 173 individuals had undergone screening tests in Kampung Kulim Tengah recently and 85 people had since tested positive.

It was reported a woman, who previously tested positive for Covid-19, has been identified as the first Delta variant case in Kelantan. The case was detected in Pasir Puteh on Friday.
