Slight decrease in number of flood victims in Perak

IPOH: The number of flood evacuees in Perak decreased slightly to 193 from 241 in two districts, as of 9am today.

A Perak Disaster Management Committee spokesperson said that the Larut, Matang and Selama (LMS) district recorded 22 flood victims from seven families, while the Kerian district recorded 171 victims.

“A total of 22 flood victims in the LMS district are from Kampung Sungai Rentaka, Kampung Melawati, Kampung Jebong Kiri, Kampung Changkat Baru and Kampung Tebuk. They are being housed at Sekolah Kebangsaan Matang.

“Meanwhile, the flood victims from the Kerian district are seeking temporary shelter at Sekolah Kebangsaan Changkat Lobak. These victims are mostly from Kampung Matang Tengah and Kampung Parit Simpang 5 Alor Pongsu,” he said.

Meanwhile, the rest and recreational (R&R) areas along the North South Expressway in Alor Pongsu remain closed to motorists as they are submerged in floodwaters.

According to a Plus Traffic update on Twitter, road users are advised to use the next R&R which is Gunung Semanggol (southbound) and Sungai Bakar (northbound).
