KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia recorded 98 deaths due to Covid-19 on Wednesday, bringing the death toll to 28,674.

Based on data shared on CovidNow and GitHub, of the total, 32 were brought-in-dead (BID) cases.

Sarawak logged 29 deaths over the past 24-hours, followed by Perak (11) and Kelantan (10).

Johor and Sabah both registered nine deaths each, Kuala Lumpur (six), Melaka (five), Kedah, Pahang (four), Negri Sembilan, Penang and Terengganu (three each), Perlis and Selangor had one each.

No deaths were registered in Labuan and Putrajaya.

Sarawak also was the state with the most BID cases at 13, followed by Sabah (six), Perak and Johor (three each), Kelantan (two), Kedah, Melaka, Penang, Terengganu and Kuala Lumpur (one each).

A total 84 deaths were reported on Oct 26.

In the past 14 days, 22 Covid-19 deaths were reported per one million people in Malaysia. In terms of states, Sarawak has the highest deaths per one million people at 54, followed by Perlis (39) and Penang (37).

The data revealed that 44.3 per cent of the 732 reported deaths in the past 14 days were those fully vaccinated; 47.3 per cent unvaccinated and 8.4 per cent of them were partially vaccinated.

The data also showed that a majority of the victims, 74.9 per cent, were aged 60 and above, 24.4 per cent from 18 to 59; 12 to 17-years-old (0.5 per cent) and 0 to 11-years-old (0.1 per cent).

Malaysia reported 6,148 fresh cases yesterday, bringing the overall total number of coronavirus cases to 2,443,118 since the pandemic struck last year.

Selangor reported the most daily cases at 1,222, followed by Sarawak (780), and Sabah (585), Johor (555), Kedah (496), Pahang (365), Penang (325), Terengganu (290), Kuala Lumpur (273), Perak (251), Negri Sembilan (176), Melaka (156), Perlis (42), Putrajaya (14), Labuan (six).

Active cases in the country now stood at 71,713. Of the number, 77.2 per cent (55,371) are observing home quarantine, 13.4 per cent (9,611) are being treated at the Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centres (PKRC), 8.6 per cent are hospitalised and the remaining 0.8 per cent are at intensive care units (ICU).

At the same time, 7,595 recoveries were reported, raising the cumulative number of recoveries to 2,347,985.

On nationwide healthcare utilisation rate, PKRCs are at 36.7 per cent, hospital beds (67.8 per cent), ICUs (59.2 per cent) and ventilators (41.2 per cent).

The average deaths per one million people dropped by 14 per cent in the past two weeks while for the past seven days the hospital bed utilisation and positivity rate had also reduced by 20 and 11 per cent respectively.

On Oct 25; 158,097 Covid-19 tests (130,924 RTK-AG and 27,173 RT-PCR) were conducted nationwide, with a positivity rate of 4.7 per cent.

On vaccinations, yesterday 147,242 doses of vaccines and 5,567 doses of booster jabs were administered.

This brought the total population vaccination rate to 74 per cent (24,165,940 individuals) consisting 22,214,490 adults and 1,951,450 adolescents.

In terms of age group, 94.9 per cent of the adult population are fully vaccinated while 62 per cent of adolescents are fully vaccinated.

Some 22.8 per cent (7,442,718 individuals) of the total population are unvaccinated and 3.9 per cent (1,265,388) were partially vaccinated.
