70 Covid-19 deaths, 15 BID cases yesterday

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia recorded 70 deaths due to Covid-19 on Tuesday, bringing the national death toll to 29,045.

Based on data shared on CovidNow and GitHub, 15 of the total fatalities were brought-in-dead (BID) cases.

Majority of the deaths were reported in Sarawak with 18 followed by 11 each in Selangor and Kelantan.

Penang reported eight deaths, Kedah (6), Perak (5), Sabah and Johor (4), while Pahang, Terengganu and Kuala Lumpur recorded one death each.

In the past two weeks, 20 Covid-19 deaths were reported per million people in Malaysia with Sarawak the highest among the states with 52 deaths per million people.

Malaysia reported 5,071 fresh cases yesterday (Tuesday), bringing the overall total to 2,481,339 since the pandemic broke last year.

Cases in Selangor were the highest at 899 followed by Kelantan (688).

Sabah reported 549, Sarawak (528), Johor (419), Kedah (347), Penang (276), Kuala Lumpur (259), Pahang (250), Perak (219), Terengganu (217), Melaka (214), and Negri Sembilan (119).

Perlis (54) and Putrajaya (33) are the only states with double digit cases while Labuan reported zero cases.

Malaysia again recorded more recoveries than the number of new cases at 5,372 raising the cumulative number to 2,385,432.

Active cases in the country now stood at 66,862.

Of the number, 77 per cent (51,472) are observing home quarantine, 13.4 per cent (8,988) are being treated at Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centres (PKRC), 8.7 per cent (5,845) are hospitalised and the remaining 0.8 per cent are at intensive care units (ICU) with 257 unventilated and 300 ventilated.

For Covid-19 patients treated in the healthcare system, ventilated patients make up 40.9 per cent and 58.7 per cent are in the ICU.

The country’s Covid-19 R-naught (Rt) rate has slightly dipped to 0.95 from 0.96 as of yesterday (Tuesday).

States with Rt 1.0 and over are Perlis and Putrajaya (1.05), Kuala Lumpur (1.01), Melaka and Negeri Sembilan (1.0).

The other states are between 0.98 and 0.86 while Labuan is nil.

On vaccinations, as of Nov 2, 75.2 per cent of the country’s total population had been fully vaccinated while 78.1 per cent have received at least one dose.

There are 24,564,990 fully vaccinated individuals, 939,753 partially vaccinated while 7,339,301 unvaccinated.

By Feb 4, 80 per cent or 26,125,920 of Malaysians are expected to be fully vaccinated.

In terms of age group, 95.7 per cent of the adult population are fully vaccinated while 69 per cent of adolescents are fully vaccinated.
