HULU LANGAT: A total of 384 police officers and personnel have been assigned to the Hulu Langat flood tactical base for flood relief operations in the district and Shah Alam.
General Operations Force (GOF) Central Brigade commander Senior Asst Comm Muhammad Abdul Halim said those deployed at the tactical base comprised officers and personnel from various divisions, including the GOF and the Federal Reserve Unit.
“The base was set up to ensure flood victims in Hulu Langat and Shah Alam receive the necessary aid and assistance.
“Various agencies also operate from the base, including the Fire and Rescue Department, Armed Forces as well as NGOs,” he told a press conference here yesterday.
SAC Muhammad said various flood relief operations have been conducted since the beginning of the floods, including rescuing flood victims and those trapped in landslides.
“Officers and personnel were also deployed for post-flood operations which focused on clean-up in Hulu Langat and Shah Alam.
“We carried out six flood relief operations daily including distributing clean water, cleaning up schools and residences, and sending food and other necessities to victims,” he said.
The police also assisted the NGOs by providing escorts to various flood-hit areas so that aid could be distributed faster, he added.
“We also used other assets such as four-wheel-drive vehicles to send supplies donated by the NGOs,” he said.
SAC Muhammad said post-flood operations are still ongoing in housing areas and villages.
“We are working tirelessly to ensure that flood victims are assisted,” he said, adding all personnel on the ground were committed to ensure the safety of those affected by the floods.
